The scientific article behind the BoSSA DMI which gives a detailed over view of the sensors present in the BoSSA system and their operation. For me the most interesting thing about this instrument is the spherical speaker array used to emulate via DSP the dispersion of sound produce by an acoustic instrument's resonating body. Not only does this allow the digital sounds to be radiated, reflected and heard in a listening space in a naturalistic way but it also gives the instrument a sense of presence and a sense of wholeness by localizing the source of the sound to the controller itself. This is very important for both performer and listener.
I think the most interesting part of this article is section 5.0 Presence, Intimacy, Physicality, and Expression. This section focuses less on the technical aspects of BoSSA and more on its artistic potential emphasizing things such as "expression" and "deep communication" caused by a "stirring" in the body. The kinds of qualities described in the section should be the ultimate goal of any DMI in my opinion.
