Musical Taste

Some thing has occurred to me. Its related to one of my original motivations of this project which is the contrast I mentioned between my own music taste and the general musical activities of Ircam. Some of the controllers that I have mentioned so far (see especially the BoSSA and BioMuse from the last post as well as the t-stick) have been used and possibly designed exclusively for use in "contemporary music".

Contemporary music is largely some thing I am not particularly interested in (despite trying). That is to say at least that I am selective and fussy with my contemporary styles. In any case, this raises the question of whether the DMI that I may create could fit into my own personal music tastes.

I should look into the extent to which the synthesis algorithm behind a dmi influences the kinds of genres it is suited to. For example it seems clear that the synthesis behind the biomuse makes it somewhat unsuitable for use in a general rock context for example. Or perhaps it would if used in the right manner. Certainly some examples of songs using electronic/digital elements spring to mind.

I think that again I need to look closely at the kinds of things I want my controller to be able to control and also regarding mapping layers to allow the controller to control anything so long as some software calibration was involved...
