A Study of Gesture-based Electronic Musical Instruments

A Study of Gesture-based Electronic Musical Instruments

This articles presents a collection of alternative controllers that are primarily based on gestural control of music that does not (in most cases) involve interaction with an explicit control interface. Rather, the instruments use techniques such as data gloves, capacitance sensing and LEDS as transducers. In places the report gives a more in depth description of some instruments which have been mentioned in previously posted works.

The problem with this report is that it seems to present a very casual definition of gesture when it comes to musical control. It suggests that the definition of a gesture is predominantly that kinds of movements involved in the kind of "free-air" controllers it presents. In that respect this article is best used simple to give some examples of existing alternative digital musical instruments, rather than being a more technical references as some of the earlier articles.
