An article giving an in depth description of the workings of the DMI The Gyrotyre, written by its creator Elliot Sinyor. An Alternate instrument created from the wheel of a child's bike (!), The Gyrotyre uses a veritable plethora of sensors attached to the wheel and a custom made handle to extract various physical readings of the tyre's movement. The circular movement of the tyre is even used as a sequencer track allowing the spinning to trigger samples with each rotation of the tyre qualifying as a measure! It can even record a measure, loop it, and allow the user to create additional layers of beats!! This seems to be an extremely imaginative instrument and serves as a prime example that although computer algorithms are very important in a dmi, the physical controller can have a massive effect on the physical interaction of the user and the resulting sound possibilities. Interestingly this instrument does not involve any visual feedback from the computer and as such can be played without paying any attention to the computer. In this respect it is reported then when played it feels like a unique and "proper" instrument.
